DescriptionA vibrant tour with emotional remembrance experiences
This tour inspires teachers and tour organisers and it allows groups to improve their understanding of wars and their causes and to become aware of the consequences of choices made in wartime.
The first day is dedicated to the major remembrance sites in the city of Liège, including La Chartreuse fort, Robermont cemetery, the Allied Memorial at Cointe, and Loncin and Lantin forts (where you can stay overnight and experience the living conditions of the garrison).
The second day starts with a tour of the “Never Again” exhibition, then a coach journey through the Eastern Cantons with guided tours of the Baugnez 44 Historical Center and the town of Malmedy.
On the third day, you explore the experiences of the GIs of the US Army at Bihain and Bastogne, including a tour of the 83rd Thunderbolt Division Museum and the 101st Airborne Division Museum. Then you assume a front-line role during a re-enactment of a post-war trial at the Bastogne War Museum.
The fourth day is spent across the border in Luxembourg exploring the history of the delightful town of Clervaux through the “Family of Man” exhibition, followed by a trip into the past at the National Military History Museum at Diekirch.
On the fifth day, you travel due South to Latour and the Baillet Museum of Wars in the Gaume Region, then you cross the border into France to visit the Marguerre Camp at Spincourt, where you learn about the might of German artillery epitomised in the Duzey cannon. You round off the day with a tasting of a typical Verdun speciality at the Braquier sugared almonds factory.
On the sixth and final day, you head to the Eparges ridge and the Montsec American Memorial through breathtaking countryside. Your richly historical and emotional tour concludes with a tour of the Douaumont Ossuary and the underground citadel.
